NCRMP 

National Cyclone Risk Mitigation Project (NCRMP) is drawn up by Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India to be implemented in 13 cyclone prone coastal States/UTs with World Bank assistance.  NCRMP is a centrally sponsored scheme. It is funded by The World Bank as an adjustable programme loan with an IDA credit.  Karnataka has been included in phase II , the project will be implemented in three coastal districts of Karnataka,i.e., Uttara Kannada, Udupi and Dakshina Kannada.
The main objective of the project is to minimize risk and vulnerabilities to cyclones through structural mitigation measures. Structural and non-structural mitigation measures taken up by Karnataka through NCRMP is as follows:
  • To construct Multi-purpose Cyclone Shelters within 0-5 kms of the coastline as disaster resistant infrastructure.
  • To construct and improve evacuation/link/fishery roads to facilitate faster evacuation and enable easy access to emergency shelter.
  • Raising and strengthening of saline embankments to protect life and agricultural property from storm surge and saline ingress.
  • Developing Early Warning Dissemination System.
